Along with the APSA Critical Policy Studies related group, we co-sponsored a virtual roundtable event with journal editors in public policy a couple of weeks ago. The purpose was to get their inside insights on the publishing process and tips on how to handle peer review. The speakers were Prof Peter Feindt (Humboldt University in Berlin), Prof Jennifer Dodge (SUNY) and Prof Chris Weible (University of Colorado Denver), who reflected on their wealth of experience editing journals such as Critical Policy Studies, the Policy Studies Journal, and the Journal of Environmental Policy and Planning.

There was a terrific turnout for the event, and a lively Q and A kicked off in the chat and in the to and fro. Discussion took in issues like the process for assigning and evaluating reviewers for interpretive/critical policy papers, to more systemic issues like constraints on word limits, internationalisation, and what might be done to address some of the inherent inequalities in the publishing process.
